German soccer side RB Leipzig have entered in to a commercial partnership with solar cells manufacturer Hanwha Q Cells.
The South Korean company will become a second-tier sponsor of RB Leipzig from the start of the 2017/18 Bundesliga season. Under the terms of the agreement, Hanwha Q Cells will have a strong brand presence through goal-side carpets and pitch-side LED boards at Die Bullen’s Leipzig Red Bull Arena.
The financial terms of the contract, which runs until the end of the 2018/19 season and includes an option for renewal, have not been released.
"As an exclusive photovoltaic partner, we are also planning to jointly develop the possibilities of solar energy for the club," said Daniel Jeong, chief technology officer of Hanwha Q Cells Germany.
Hanwha Q Cells is the third new sponsor that RB Leipzig have secured in the close-season and expands their total partners to eight companies.
Leipzig, which was founded in 2009 by an initiative of energy drinks manufacturer Red Bull, who purchased the playing right of the fifth division side SSV Markranstädt, finished as runner-up in the 2016/17 Bundesliga and secured a place in the 2017/18 Uefa Champions League, European soccer’s premier club competition.
