Rakuten pens Brose Bamberg deal

German top-tier basketball team Brose Bamberg have announced a partnership with Rakuten until the end of the 2017/18 season.

The Japanese e-commerce firm will be a third gold sponsor of Brose Bamberg, and will enjoy a large commercial presence at home games at the side’s Brose Arena, seeing its branding on the countdown clock, on LED boards, and on club magazines.

Brose Bamberg will receive its own retail space on the e-commerce marketplace.

"We are delighted that Rakuten is now also part of the Brose Bamberg family,” said Frank Hümmer, chief product officer at Rakuten. “We feel very close to the region as a company based in Bamberg. The commitment is primarily aimed at further raising awareness of our company in order to attract qualified personnel.

“Both organisations, Rakuten and Brose Bamberg, are strong brands and stand for entertainment, family events and professionalism.”

Rolf Beyer, managing director at Brose Bamberg, added: "In order to achieve our growth goals in the long term, in order to meet the increased requirements and specially set goals, we must become active in the national and international area.

“I'm very happy and proud that we could partner with a global company like Rakuten. It is a win-win situation for both sides. Rakuten can present itself in a professional, family-friendly environment. In return, we'll find ourselves on one of the world's largest and best online platforms."

Brose Bamberg finished top of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) in 2016/17 and currently stand fifth in the 2017/18 season, after winning six of their opening nine games. They beat Skyliners Frankfurt 75-67 at home on 12th November, and will host FC Barcelona on Wednesday in European-wide top-tier basketball competition the EuroLeague.
