Coca-Cola and KT have been announced as the first official sustainability partners of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Having partnered with the Olympic Games since 1928, soft drink brand Coca-Cola is the longest-standing sponsor of the event, and will carry out a local project to improve the quality of water in PyeongChang.
Meanwhile, telecommunications company KT will provide IT services in order to improve the tourism readiness of the South Korean province, which will create an environment that can benefit the local population far beyond the duration of the Games. The state-owned firm was also an official sponsor of the 1988 Summer Olympic Games in Seoul.
“The environment and sustainability have been two key issues at the heart of our plans and proposals for the Winter Games,” said Yeo Hyung-koo, secretary general of the PyeongChang organising committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Games. “We are delighted to announce our first sustainability partners today who are working closely with us on these environmental projects to support and benefit not only those coming to the Games, but also those in the local area that will see the benefits for years to come.”
PyeongChang 2018 will mark the first time that the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games have been staged in South Korea, and is scheduled to take place between 9th and 25th February.
