German commercial broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 has agreed a multi-year extension of its rights deal with the National Football League (NFL) ahead of the new season.
The agreement will see the free-to-air network show selected live games exclusively throughout the 2017 campaign, along with the season-ending Super Bowl LII, which is due to take place in Minneapolis on 4th February 2018.
ProSiebenSat.1 will also expand its coverage of the league by launching a weekly highlights programme called Coach’s Corner, which will be aired every Tuesday on its ProSieben MAXX channel.
Daniel Rosemann, chief executive of ProSieben and ProSieben MAXX, said: “The NFL has become a distinctive feature for ProSieben MAXX and has ensured two years of great odds and constant buzz on social media - and even international attention for our coverage.
“All the more I am delighted that we will be able to show more football on ProSieben MAXX from our upcoming season. With the transmission of the Super Bowl and other football games on ProSieben, the football fever has now reached the big broadcasting brother. The ProSieben family is hot on the NFL.”
ProSiebenSat.1’s coverage will begin with the opening game of the 2017 NFL season, when reigning Super Bowl champions the New England Patriots host the Kansas City Chiefs on 7th September.
