Philadelphia 76ers seal HyperX deal

The National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Philadelphia 76ers have announced a one-year partnership with HyperX.

The gaming division of Kingston Technology, which also sponsors esports franchise Team Dignitas, will serve as the Pennsylvania-based club’s official headset partner for the duration of the 2017/18 season.

HyperX will benefit from a range of marketing opportunities at the team’s Wells Fargo Center, including courtside and in-arena LED signage and branding, exposure on the scoreboard, concourse activations and giveaway nights. The two parties will also collaborate to create co-branded video content, which will include 76ers players starring in crossover video features with members of Team Dignitas.

Additionally, the 76ers esports team will use HyperX headsets during the inaugural NBA 2K League, which is set to debut in 2018. The agreement represents HyperX’s first partnership with an NBA franchise.

Chad Biggs, senior vice president of marketing partnerships for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, the company that owns the 76ers, said: “HyperX equipment provides unparalleled sound quality and precision for Team Dignitas players training and competing at the most elite level in the world, and as such, has been both a natural partner and critical member of our team for years.

“We are proud this world-renowned esports brand will now become a household name for Philadelphia 76ers fans as well, as HyperX becomes the official gaming headset partner of one of the most iconic NBA franchises in history. We look forward to introducing HyperX gaming headsets, keyboards and mice to our 76ers fans through dynamic in-game activation and compelling digital content online.”

Daniel Kelley, director of corporate marketing for HyperX, added: “As traditional sports and esports converge and fan enthusiasm grows, HyperX is pleased to be the first gaming accessories company to sponsor an NBA team.”

The 76ers lost their first game of the new NBA season against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday. They play their next fixture at home to the Boston Celtics on Friday.
