Digital sports content group Perform Media has secured the exclusive UK digital rights to the 2017 and 2018 editions of the Fifa World Club Cup, an annual men's soccer competition that pits seven sides from six confederations in a straight knock-out format.
Perform’s online soccer brand Goal will be streaming this year’s Fifa World Club Cup across its various social media platforms for free.
The 2017 Fifa Club World Cup takes place between 6th and 16th December in Abu Dhabi.
“Securing the rights to the Fifa World Club Cup is tremendous for Goal, but also for the millions of fans who rely on us for their football news and coverage,” said Sam Brown, Goal’s head of English language. “At no cost, fans in the UK will be able to watch, through Goal, the likes of Ronaldo, Modric and the rest of the stellar cast of Real Madrid compete in the UAE as they look to both defend their 2016 championship win and equal Barcelona’s three Fifa World Club Cup championships.”
“We’re looking help fans feel as close as possible to the action in the UAE, both on the pitch and outside the stadiums, as well as showcasing how Goal covers international tournaments ahead of the World Cup in Russia next year.”
Chris Ricketts, director of sales at Perform Media, added: “Securing these rights is another demonstration to our brand partners that Perform lead in delivering exclusive sports content to fans at scale”
The current Fifa Club World Cup champions are Spain's Real Madrid, who defeated Japan's Kashima Antlers 4–2 in the final, to win a second title in the competition. European teams have been the most successful, with nine titles.
