Austrian public service broadcaster ORF has secured rights to the 2017/18 edition of ice hockey’s pan-European club competition, the Champions Hockey League (CHL).
The agreement will allow the network to televise group stage games featuring teams from the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga, Austrian ice hockey’s top flight. Remaining games from the tournament, which comprises the best teams from first-tier leagues across Europe, will be shown on the CHL’s website free of charge.
The Austrian teams competing in this season’s competition are reigning domestic champions the Vienna Capitals, Klagenfurt Athletic Sports Club and Red Bull Salzburg.
Martin Baumann, chief executive of the CHL, said: “Every fan now has the opportunity to see all games with Austrian participation, be it with the ORF or with us on our platform.”
Meanwhile, iClinic has been announced as an official partner of the 2017/18 CHL.
The one-year deal, which was negotiated by Infront Sports & Media, will give the Slovakian eye surgery firm significant brand exposure during each of the competitions 125 fixtures. The company’s logo will appear on two rink boards in each tournament venue, as well as on official media and press conference backdrops.
“We are delighted to start supporting the CHL,” said Ivo Ďurkovič, chief executive of iClinic. “We see hockey as an important part of the culture of many European nations and CHL recognises the same values as we do: no compromise in the pursuit of excellence.”
Bruno Marty, executive director of winter sports for Infront Sports & Media, added: “It is a pleasure to welcome iClinic as a new official partner for the Champions Hockey League. We are confident this sponsorship deal will offer huge benefits for the company.”
