Austrian public service broadcaster ORF has extended its rights deal with the Austrian Ski Federation (OSV), the governing body for skiing in the country.
The multi-year agreement will see the channel carry all skiing events in Austria organised by the OSV, including the European nation’s leg of the Alpine Skiing World Cup, Nordic skiing competitions, and snowboard and freestyle tournaments. The rights package also includes radio and online coverage of the events.
Peter Schroecksnadel, chairman of the OSV, said: “I am pleased to be able to show winter sports freely and without any economic barriers in Austria. ORF is the number one in the world for television broadcasts - its quality level has never been achieved by anyone else. The ORF images of competitions in Austria are broadcast worldwide and are advertised to our territory, which helps us a lot.”
Alexander Wrabetz, chief executive of ORF, added: “The collaboration of the world's best skiing federation, OSV, with the world's best skiing carrier, ORF, provides fantastic winter sports coverage in Austria. My most grateful thanks go to Peter Schroecksnadel and the OSV, which puts its sport in the best hands: ours.”
