Omani soccer renews title deal
Telecommunications provider Omantel has renewed its sponsorship of the Oman Football Association (OFA) for a further three years.
As it has done for the previous three seasons, Omantel will be the title sponsor of the Omani Premier League, which kicks off this year on 25th September.
According to Dr Amer Al Rawas, chief executive of Omantel, the value of the three year deal is US$2.3 million.
“We feel that football touches major segment in the society and it is an effective tool to reach our customers. We have scored well in the last three years,” he said.
“If you look at the way football has grown in the last few years, Omantel has played a major role. Their support to OFA has been phenomenal,” Sayyid Khalid Al Busaidi, chairman of the OFA, said.
The Omani Premier League is not yet fully professional. Al Busaidi did, however, indicate that the value of the deal may rise once full professional status is attained.
"We are in the process of professionalising," he said, "and once that gets fully completed then definitely we need to revise the contract."
