Now TV, the pay-TV service provider operated by PCCW Media, has acquired exclusive rights to show next season’s English Premier League in Hong Kong.

Now TV was outbid by Chinese digital media company LeSports in 2015 for Premier League rights from 2016/17 to 2018/19, but went on to partner with the company to show games from English club soccer’s top flight.

LeSports has since ceased operations after the China-based LeEco racked up huge debts, leaving Now TV with exclusive pay-TV and free TV rights to the league for the forthcoming campaign.

Games will also be shown on the Now Player over-the-top (OTT) app and games can also be watched back using Now TV’s video-on-demand service.

LeSports agreed to pay close to US$400 million for the Premier League rights from 2016/17 to 201/19, which represented approximately twice the amount paid by PCCW during the previous three-season cycle.

Richard Scudamore, executive chairman of Premier League, said: “Hong Kong is home to passionate fans of the Premier League and our clubs and we know PCCW, through their Now TV platform, will make the competition available in ways that they enjoy.”
