Northern Racing managing director Tony Kelly said: “Horseracing is currently facing a number of challenges, including the central funding of the sport and the need to implement initiatives which will widen racing’s appeal.”

Chaired by former Conservative Party leader Lord Howard, Northern Racing owns and operates ten racecourses. On 23rd September 2010, Northern Racing formally opened a new UK£6.5 million grandstand at Fontwell Park in Sussex.
