Adidas has announced two Chinese athletes, swimmer Ning Zetao and volleyball star Hui Ruoqi, as its latest brand ambassadors.
The two Olympians will front the sportswear giant’s ‘One in a Billion’ advertising campaign in China, and the pair will lend their images to both print and television adverts to be shown in the Asian country to promote ‘creativity in sport’.
Adidas is embarking on a major retail expansion in China and has previously stated that it wants to become the country’s number one sports brand by 2020.
“Creativity is the core of our business and part of everything we do,” said Colin Currie, managing director of Adidas Group for Greater China. “We remain strongly committed to working closely with our ever-expanding portfolio of sports assets to accelerate the pace of sport development nationwide and inspire more Chinese to embrace their individuality through sport.”
Ruoqi is the captain of the China women’s volleyball team that won gold at last year’s Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, a feat made more remarkable given that her participation came just a year after she underwent major heart surgery. Zetao also represented China at the Rio Olympics but he failed to medal.
