Virtual reality (VR) broadcaster NextVR has become the official League Pass VR partner of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

NBA League Pass is part of NBA Digital, the basketball league’s cross-platform portfolio of digital assets jointly managed by the NBA and Turner Sports. It will live stream at least one game per week in VR during the 2016/17 season.

The first VR game - between the Sacramento Kings and the San Antonio Spurs on 27th October - will be available for free as part of a short-term trial. However, a full schedule will be announced later this month and available only as part of the NBA League Pass full season package.

The VR broadcasts will have dedicated announcers, multiple camera angles and optimised graphics. Subscribers to the service will also have access to VR-specific behind-the-scenes footage from arenas and a specialised commentary service.

The 2016/17 NBA season begins on 25th October with a game between the New York Nicks and defending NBA champions the Cleveland Cavaliers, at the Cav’s Quicken Loans Arena.
