NBA expands partnership with Perform Group

The National Basketball Association (NBA) has agreed a significant expansion to its media rights deal with digital sports content agency Perform Group in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Starting in 2016/17, over 250 live NBA games per season will air in those territories on Perform's recently announced OTT broadcast service, which will launch next year.

In addition, Perform will produce one game per week to be aired for free on the NBA's own official German language website, which is hosted by sports portal Spox.com.

“We are delighted to extend our relationship with the NBA, who are our trusted partners and who share our vision for our exciting new OTT service launching in the region in 2016,” said John Gleasure, Perform Group chief communications officer for new ventures.


“We are pleased to secure this premium content for the OTT service and look forward to delivering this to our subscribers alongside leading European football and other premium sports rights properties. This deal further demonstrates our drive to offer fans the best live sport.”

Meanwhile, German broadcaster Sport1 has acquired a package of pay-TV rights to the NBA from Perform for the next two seasons.

Sport1 will show up to 120 games per season from the regular season, playoffs and finals, consisting of three live or repeated games per week in the early hours of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings.

The deal began earlier on Wednesday with the broadcast of the Golden State Warriors’ 111-95 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.
