National Basketball Association (NBA) All-Star Joel Embiid has become a brand ambassador for HyperX, the gaming division of Kingston Technology Company.
The Cameroonian centre, 23, is the first NBA player to sign an endorsement deal with the headset brand, which last year signed a partnership with the Philadelphia 76ers, who picked Embiid third overall in the 2014 NBA draft.
Since signing for the 76ers, Embiid has suffered from a string of injury-plagued seasons, but was recently named as an Eastern Conference starter for Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles.
HyperX products are also used by Team Dignitas, an international esports team who were acquired by the 76ers in September 2016.
“When I’m not playing basketball, I’m gaming,” said Embiid. “HyperX headsets are extremely comfortable and the audio quality is amazing. They help me do what I love to do - win.”
Daniel Kelley, HyperX director of corporate marketing, added: “Skilled as a pro basketball player and recognised as an esports social media star, HyperX welcomes Joel to the HyperX family as a brand ambassador for gaming. We’re looking forward to including Joel in our activities in 2018.”
Embiid’s 76ers are seventh in the NBA’s Eastern Conference, and host the Miami Heat on Wednesday in what is their last game before the All-Star break.
