NASL’s Scorpions sign corner sponsor

The San Antonio Scorpions, who play in the North American Soccer League (NASL), have added CST Brands Inc as a sponsor.

CST will promote its Valero Corner Store chain through signage at the club's Toyota Field stadium. Bizarrely, the company will sponsor all corner kicks during Scorpions home games.

“We are thrilled to build a relationship with a sports organisation that cares as much about our city as we do,” said CST senior vice president and marketing officer Hal Adams.

“Soccer for a Cause is an admirable business model and we are proud to get in on the early days of a team and franchise we are confident will be a huge success.”

The Scorpions debuted in the NASL last year and are owned by Gordon Hartman, who has pledged to use all profits made by the team to support a nearby special needs theme park.
