MySports secures Formula E rights ahead of Zurich E-Prix

Swiss pay-TV broadcaster MySports has picked up the rights to Formula E, as the all-electric racing series prepares to bring a motorsport event back to the country for the first time in over 60 years.

The channel will provide live coverage of every race from the 2017/18 season, along with qualifying and practice sessions and magazine programming.

MySports’ coverage got underway with Saturday’s leg in Santiago, Chile. The Swiss city of Zurich is joining the Chilean capital and Rome, Italy as a new venue on this season’s calendar, and the inaugural Zurich E-Prix is scheduled to take place on 10th June.

Formula One’s Swiss Grand Prix in 1954 was the last motorsport event to be held in the country due to the disaster at the 1955 Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race in France that claimed the lives of dozens of spectators, and resulted in motor racing being outlawed in Switzerland. A law change in 2015 lifted restrictions on fully electric racing, allowing Formula E to schedule an event on the streets of Zurich.
