Sports media company MP & Silva has announced its acquisition of the international media rights to Italy's Serie A for three-year period beginning with the 2012/13 soccer season.
The international media rights, which exclude Italy, were awarded to MP & Silva following a competitive tender process involving six other media and marketing agencies.
MP & Silva's winning bid is thought to be between €115 million (US$154 million) and €120 million (US$160 million) per season.
MP & Silva first acquired the media rights to the top tier of Italian soccer in November 2009, when the company's US$135 million bid beat those of Mediapro, Sportfive and IMG.
Like the previous deal, the new agreement covers all media platforms including television, IPTV and mobile rights.
Regarding the new agreement, MP & Silva president Riccardo Silva said, "Since 2004 Italian Serie A has been our flagship property, therefore we are glad to have confirmed those rights also for the next seasons.”
