French tennis player Gaël Monfils has signed a multi-year endorsement deal with Japanese sportswear brand Asics.
As the brand’s latest worldwide tennis ambassador, the 26-year-old, who is currently ranked 77 in the ATP Rankings, will wear Asics apparel and footwear during competitions.
As part of his off-court commitment to Asics, Monfils will feature in a print, in-store and online advertising campaign for the brand which will run throughout 2013. He will also be involved in the design and development of future Asics tennis products.
Monfils, who is currently competing at the Qatar Exxonmobil Open in Doha, previously wore American brand K-Swiss in a deal thought to be worth an annual US$600,000.
The former world number seven, who joins Australian WTA star Sam Stosur on Asics’ roster of tennis endorsers, said: “2013 is going to be a fresh start in my tennis career and I am looking forward to beginning the season wearing Asics footwear and apparel.”
“With the help and support of a world class brand like Asics, I am confident I will make it back to the top of the game and be challenging for titles this year.”
Asics global president and chief executive Motoi Oyama added: “Gaël Monfils is an outstanding player with great athleticism, an attractive playing style and a determination that reflects Asics’ own ambition to become the number one brand in tennis.”
“We have a long history of innovation in tennis footwear and apparel and we are glad to have added a global tennis star who will bring worldwide exposure for our brand.”
