Mercedes-Benz has become a new sponsor of the Alex Thomson Racing sailing outfit.
The German carmaker will serve as a ‘core sponsor’ of the Hugo Boss-backed team’s IMOCA 60 Ocean Masters race campaign.
“We are happy to announce our new co-operation with Alex Thomson Racing together with Hugo Boss,” said Dr Jens Thiemer, the vice president of marketing at Mercedes-Benz Cars.
“The partnership is part of our marketing strategy of establishing co-operative arrangements with carefully selected people and brands. The drive to perform and the passion to create the best connects all three partners perfectly.”
The new deal was announced at the unveiling of the new Mercedes-Benz GLC in Metzingen this week, and comes ahead of the launch of Thomson’s new racing yacht later this summer.
The Briton will race the yacht in offshore sailing’s pinnacle event, The Vendée Globe, which starts in November 2016.
