Mercedes-Benz has signed a four-year deal to become the official car sponsor of the WGC-HSBC Champions golf tournament.
Under the deal, the German auto manufacturer will supply a fleet of more than 70 vehicles for the use of players and officials at the event, which is held each October at the Sheshan International Golf Club in Shanghai.
Additionally, Mercedes-Benz will have a branded cafe overlooking the event’s practice range as well as car displays in the spectator village. It will also give players the chance to win a GLC Coupe for a hole-in-one on the tournament’s 17th hole.
The new deal was confirmed by tournament promoters WME | IMG China last week, shortly before England’s Justin Rose went on to win this year’s edition of the US$9.75 million event, which has been dubbed 'Asia's major'.
Mercedes-Benz is already a major backer of golf worldwide. It currently sponsors three of the sport’s men’s major tournaments - The Masters, The Open and The US PGA Championship - and has relationships with several top players.
