Mazda has extended its sponsorship agreement with Australian Football League (AFL) team North Melbourne until the end of the 2016 season.
The Japanese car manufacturer is the sole major sponsor of the Kangaroos and this latest extension will take their partnership into its 18th year.
James Brayshaw, the Kangaroos’ chairman, said: “To have a global brand like Mazda aligned with our club is something that has always been humbling for us. Mazda has been incredibly loyal to this club over a long period of time and we value our relationship extremely highly.”
Mazda Australia’s marketing director Alastair Doak partly attributes the company’s growth in Australia to the Kangaroos sponsorship: “When Mazda started its relationship with North Melbourne we were selling 27,000 cars a year and ranked just inside the top ten selling car brands, now sales have almost quadrupled,” he said.
“Our research tells us that there is a direct correlation between our sponsorship of North, improved brand awareness and familiarity, and increased purchase intent – our partnership has inspired more people to buy a Mazda.”
North Melbourne will face Essendon in their first match of the 2014 AFL season on 21st March.
