Indian boxing star M.C. Mary Kom has signed two new sponsorship deals believed to be worth a combined US$100,000.

Indian boxing star M.C. Mary Kom has signed two new sponsorship deals believed to be worth a combined US$100,000.

The four-time world champion, dubbed Magnificent Mary, unveiled agreements with Herbalife India and the Sahara Group.

Mother of twins, Kom, is tipped as India’s best medal hope in the 2012 London Olympics.

“At Herbalife, our focus on sports goes a long way in communicating the need for healthy living through better nutrition,” said Ajay Khanna, country head, Herbalife India.

“With our commitment to the Indian market, Mary will endorse Herbalife's range of nutritional products and support us in promoting a healthy, active life in India.

“This is our second sports personality association in India and we will continue to identify other talents to help them fulfil their goals and place India's sports leadership on the global map.”

Boxer Kom said: “I am extremely excited to be associated with an internationally respected brand like Herbalife and I look forward to working with Herbalife in the near future.

“As a professional athlete, I am proud to be associated with a brand that promotes the health and well being of its customers and together we can show people the value that lies in the Herbalife philosophy!”

Neerav Tomar, chief executive officer of Infinity Optimal Solutions (IOS), which represents the boxer, said: “In terms of visibility and brand image, women's boxing is not as prominent as badminton, though if Kom brings back the gold from the World Championship later this year, things could change.”

Kom - whose last world title came in 2008 - was previously handpicked by group Olympic Gold Quest (OGQ) for training support an organisation dedicated to winning medals for India.

The forthcoming 2012 Olympics marks the first time women’s’ boxing has been accepted as an official Olympic event.
