Lowe’s extends deal with Daytona 500 winner Johnson

Lowe's Companies has announced it has extended its sponsorship of Jimmie Johnson's Nascar Sprint Cup car for two more seasons, just two days after the five-time champion won the Daytona 500 for a second time in the company's colours.

The home improvement firm will sponsor Johnson's number 48 car throughout 2014 and 2015. Its contract with Hendrick had been due to expire at the end of the season.
 
Johnson, who beat Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Danica Patrick, to win the Sprint Cup season-opener on Sunday has been on a whirlwind media tour of the United States this week, ahead of the second round of the series in Pheonix this weekend.
 
 
“It has been a great ride with Jimmie since he started in the Cup Series 12 years ago,” said Tom Lamb, Lowe’s chief marketing officer. 
 
“We are proud to sponsor one of the most elite teams and drivers in racing and have a five-time champion carry the Lowe’s brand each week.”
 
37-year old Johnson's contract with Hendrick also runs until the end of 2015. He added: "Lowe’s believed in me before I had any success. They are all I’ve ever known in my Sprint Cup career, and their support of me and the No. 48 team is second to none in the sport. 
 
"We’ve been together for this crazy ride, and I’m so happy we’re continuing it together. They truly are family, and I’m proud to represent them.”
