Lidl has been announced as an official sponsor of next year’s European Handball Federation (EHF) European Men's Handball Championship in Croatia.
The deal, negotiated by the Infront Sports & Media marketing agency, will see the German-based supermarket chain serve as the official fresh food partner of the flagship competition, which features the top 16 national handball teams in Europe. The company will benefit from extensive brand exposure, including floor stickers on the court at each game and advertising on surrounding LED boards.
Additionally, Lidl – which was also an official partner of the 2017 International Handball Federation (IHF) World Men's Handball Championship – will provide fans with an opportunity to watch games courtside on the Lidl Fan Sofa via a promotion on its online channels.
The deal means that Infront, which is the exclusive media and marketing partner of the EHF, has now filled six of the eight sponsorship slots for the 2018 European Men's Handball Championship. Other partners already secured for the event include Engelbert Strauss, Intersport, Gorenje, Grundfos and Raiffeisen Bank International.
Commenting on the deal, a Lidl spokesperson said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Lidl and our customers. We are proud to be connected to such an event and are looking forward to building a successful partnership in accordance with our mission statement: ‘Simply more joy for life’.”
The 2018 European Men's Handball Championship will be the 13th edition of the event, and will be played across the Croatian cities of Split, Porec, Zagreb and Varaždin from 12th to 28th January.
