DHL has been announced as the official logistics partner of the Premier League champions, Leicester City, for a fourth consecutive year.
The worldwide logistics company will support the English Midlands soccer club throughout their debut Uefa Champions League campaign, the International Champions Cup (ICC) pre-season soccer tournament and the defence of their Premier League title.
In preparation for the 2016/17 campaign, Leicester are competing in the ICC, and DHL were there to help them at the East Midlands Airport, one of DHL’s UK Hubs, ahead of their flight to Glasgow to take on Celtic.
The financial terms of the one-year extension were not disclosed.
“The Foxes are now a global brand, playing matches around the world, supported by fans on every continent,” said Phil Couchman, the chief executive of DHL Express UK & Ireland. “We are looking forward to developing our partnership this season and supporting Leicester City with their international success.”
Ian Flanagan, commercial director of Leicester City said: “DHL has been a valued partner of the club for several seasons and we are delighted to renew our partnership with a blue-chip global brand.
“We are looking forward to working closely with DHL, as we embark on the ICC and prepare for our first season in the UEFA Champions League.”
Having been Leicester City’s official logistics partner for the past three seasons DHL has seen the club through extreme lows and highs. They narrowly escaped relegation from the Premier League in the 2014/15 season but the following year, under seasoned manager Claudio Ranieri, they pulled of one of the biggest shocks in soccer history when they won England’s top flight by ten points.
