The agreement was formalised by the attacking midfielder's parent club, Napoli, in what has been hailed as a ground-breaking move for the Serie A outfit.

The deal sees Adidas become the first technical sponsor to sign an agreement with Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis that includes image rights.

De Laurentiis previously insisted that all image rights should belong to Napoli, which prevented players from signing personal endorsements for boots and other products. The 68-year-old's firm stance has reportedly deterred players from joining the club in the past, because they would have to terminate all existing deals with sponsors.

“I thank Adidas for welcoming us in its big family with this agreement," said De Laurentiis. “I hope that there will also be collaborations with other players and those in the form of other initiatives.

“I’m sure our fans in Italy and around the world will view this new friendship with interest and satisfaction, as well as acknowledge the business activities it will generate.”
