IEC lands lucrative deal with South Africa soccer side
IEC in Sports will represent the commercial rights of the South Africa national soccer team for the next two years.
The Stockholm-based agency will also market the next two editions of the Vodacom Challenge pre-season series, which featured Manchester United last season and will see Manchester City compete this summer.
But the lucrative part of the deal, which is expected to fetch the agency around half a million dollars in fees, is the marketing of the rights for the South Africa team in the build-up to the Fifa World Cup in the country next year.
"The South African home internationals and the Vodacom Challenge will be excellent opportunities to get a taste of the excitement expected when the 2010 Fifa World Cup kicks off in South Africa," said Jonas Persson, chief executive of IEC in Sports. "We expect widespread global interest from broadcasters to follow the teams and their preparations on the grounds of the upcoming Fifa World Cup."
