Borussia Dortmund and Germany defender Mats Hummels has become the latest athlete to endorse Procter & Gamble’s (P&G) Head and Shoulders brand of shampoo.
The 24-year-old, a recent transfer target for several top European teams including both Manchester clubs, joins the likes of tennis ace Roger Federer, British cyclist Mark Cavendish, soccer star Lionel Messi and American swimmer Michael Phelps as an ambassador for the popular hair care brand.
A new print, TV and online advertising campaign featuring Hummels will be rolled out in Germany this month.
The exact contractual details of his deal were not released, however, based on similar agreements, German sports business news website Sponsors.de estimates it to be worth €600,000 over two years.
Elsewhere in German soccer, goalkeeping legend Oliver Kahn has reportedly signed a new, five-year agreement to serve as a brand ambassador for betting company Tipico.
The much-loved former Bayern Munich player, 43, will become the new face of Tipico following the launch of the company’s new Germany-wide marketing campaign. It is hoped his popularity will encourage the German public to warm to the idea of sports betting, which suffers from bad press and scepticism in the country.
The signing of Kahn builds on Tipico’s existing involvements in sport, which currently include advertising deals with five German soccer clubs: Hamburger SV, SC Freiburg, Werder Bremen, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and VfL Bochum.
