Canadian media company Shaw Communications has agreed a deal with the PGA Tour to broadcast a host of events on its Global channel.
The deal will see Global broadcast weekend action from 26 PGA Tour events per season until 2018, as well as weekend coverage of Presidents Cup play in 2015 and 2017. Global will provide coverage of The Players Championship, the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance, the RBC Canadian Open and the four FedEx Cup playoff events.
Global will also air a weekly 30-minute magazine programme of highlights and player interviews from the eight recently confirmed PGA Tour Canada events.
“We are delighted to enter into this partnership with Shaw Communications,” said PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem. “Canadian golf fans have always demonstrated a strong appetite for PGA Tour golf and this partnership allows those fans to enjoy our product on a consistent platform for the next five years. The PGA Tour is committed to golf in Canada and we are delighted to have Shaw as our partner.”
In addition, Shaw Business becomes a premier sponsor of the RBC Canadian Open until 2017 and will produce a 60-minute pre-game highlights programme ahead of its weekend coverage.
Financial terms of the agreements were not released.
