French horse racing rights go free-to-air

Free-to-air broadcaster France Televisions has secured the broadcast rights to French horse racing after Canal+ decided not to renew its partnership with France Galop.

France Televisions beat TF1 and other broadcasters to the contract, according to French press reports. Those reports also indicate that the company will not produce coverage of the races itself, and will instead subcontract production - a number of companies have registered interest.

Each year, France Galop organises more than 6,500 races at racetracks throughout France.
