With the X Games set to kick off in Aspen, Colorado this week, event owners ESPN have announced GoPro, Red Bull, Jeep and Ford as the first ever global sponsors of the action sports event series.
The four partners will each have extensive presence across all six stopovers in this year’s expanded X Games series, which besides Aspen includes another winter event in Tignes, France (March), and four summer editions in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil (April); Barcelona, Spain (May); Munich, Germany (June); and Los Angeles, USA (August).
As part of their global packages, the four partners will receive on-course and event signage as well as tickets and VIP on-site hospitality. They will also be incorporated into X Games media platforms across ESPN’s TV, digital, print and radio channels.
Camera brand GoPro and energy drink giant Red Bull will enjoy category exclusivity, while Jeep and Ford will share the automotive category, with Jeep having a presence in the winter events and Ford participating in summer events.
To activate its partnership in Aspen, which runs on Buttermilk Mountain for a 12th consecutive year from 24th to 27th January, Jeep will feature two of its vehicles alongside the slopestyle course. Red Bull will aim to engage fans by running photo booths and athlete autograph signings, while GoPro, a sponsor of last year's LA event, will sponsor the GoPro Snowmobile Best Trick event in Aspen.
In addition to unveiling the four global partners, ESPN also announced that Office Depot, The North Face, Repreve, Loctite, OtterBox, Yoplait and Monster Cable have all purchased local sponsorship rights for Aspen.
America’s Navy, meanwhile, has also become an official X Games partner. It will have a presence in Aspen, where it will back the Snowboard Big Air event, and Los Angeles, as well as being featured on X Games telecasts in the US.
