German soccer club Fortuna Dusseldorf have unveiled their new away shirt using augmented reality (AR).

The Bundesliga club launched a smartphone app called ‘Trikottaufe’ last week, with its prime objective to allow fans to watch the presentation of the club’s new away playing shirt.

On last Friday’s launch day, fans could were able to direct their mobile devices at the river Rhine during a firework display near the Oberkasseler Bridge to unlock an AR projection of club’s new white-grey away kit rising digitally from the Rhine.

Last season, Fortuna also attracted attention with a kit unveiling – that time with an oversized version of the jersey made of cloth, which was then attached to Dusseldorf Town Hall.
