Formula One returns to SportTV

Pay-TV channel SportTV has acquired the Portuguese rights for the 2017 Formula One season.

The sports-oriented cable channel lost the rights for the global open-wheel series to Eurosport in 2016. EuroSport 2Xtra had a deal in place until the end of the 2018 season but following the channel’s closure, parent company Eurosport has resold rights to SportTV.

The Formula One world championship starts on 24th March with its traditional curtain-raiser at Melbourne’s Albert Park Lake street circuit.

Last year’s race was won by the now-retired and reigning world champion Nico Rosberg. The German beat team-mate and fierce rival Lewis Hamilton by 8 seconds. Hamilton is most people’s favourite to reclaim the driver’s world championship this year.
