The Paris Marathon will have its first ever title sponsor after a four-year deal was struck between the organisers, ASO, and French multinational electric group Schneider Electric.
Although the Paris Marathon is not one of the elite group of World Marathon Majors - London, Berlin, Chicago, Boston, New York and now Tokyo - it is one of the largest marathon events in the world.
While contract details have not been released, Schneider Electric is likely to be paying a mid-six figure sum annually for its deal.
"As any student of climate issues can tell you, the race is on and we need to run faster to solve issues that become more acute with each passing day. In the long-term, our ambition is to make the Schneider Electric Paris Marathon the first energy positive race in the world," proclaimed the company's chief marketing officer Aaron Davis.
"The Schneider Electric Paris Marathon is the perfect platform to emphasise our brand values: care, connect, challenge and commit. We see a unique opportunity to link our brand to the spirit and values embodied by the timeless challenge of the marathon, but with a focus on the people, the technologies and the ability to do things differently."
“It makes us both delighted and proud to be able to associate a prestigious brand such as Schneider Electric to one of the world’s biggest marathons. The emerging relationship between our two organisations heralds a partnership with considerable added value, benefiting from the know-how of each of the parties," said ASO managing director Yann Le Moenner.
This year's Paris Marathon takes place on Sunday 7th April.
