State-owned broadcaster Bangladesh Television (BTV), pay-TV broadcaster Maasranga Television and Nagorik Television have acquired rights in the south Asian country to the 2018 Fifa World Cup national team tournament.

The broadcasters agreed sublicensing deals with the Jadoo Media, K-Sports, Zircon and Mediacom consortium.

The financial terms of the deals have not yet been disclosed.

“Even though cricket drew the attention of the bulk of the people of the country, football is a universal game,” said Hasanul Haq Inu, Bangladesh information minister. “By the instrumentality of the four local organisations, the people of Bangladesh will be able to watch and enjoy the football matches of the World Cup,”

The 2018 Fifa World Cup is due to take place from 14th June to 15th July in Russia.
