The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has secured an online streaming agreement with Facebook for a Fifa Women’s World Cup qualifier played by its women’s team.
Tuesday’s match against Portugal at the Estádio António Coimbra da Mota will be shown exclusively on FIGC’s Facebook page.
The fixture marks the first ever time that a game played by an Italian national soccer side has been made available through the Silicon Valley company’s over-the-top (OTT) platform, Facebook Live.
Milena Bartolini’s undefeated team are currently second in Group F after three games of their qualification campaign to the World Cup in France in 2019.
Meanwhile, Irish broadcaster Eir Sport has announced that it will make live coverage of the Republic of Ireland’s women’s qualifier against European champions the Netherlands available on the platform on Tuesday.
The game, which is also being carried on the pay-TV operator’s Eir Sport 1 channel, will be played at the De Goffert Stadion in Nijmegen, with both sides looking to build on two opening wins in Group C.
