Fiba and Deutsche Telekom strike long-term partnership

Deutsche Telekom has acquired the German broadcast rights to the International Basketball Federation’s (Fiba) national team events for the next five years.

The German telecommunications giant will offer the games live across its free-to-air linear television channel EntertainTV, online via telekomsport.de and on mobile devices through its Telekom Sport App.

The agreement begins with the organisation’s EuroBasket 2017, which will be played between 31st August and 17th September in host countries Finland, Israel, Romania and Turkey. The agreement was brokered by Fiba Media, the organisation’s media arm that was forged in partnership with Perform Group.

"This partnership with Fiba will substantially grow the offering of top-quality basketball on our Telekom Sport platform,” said Henning Stiegenroth, head of sports marketing at Deutsche Telekom. “The addition of the best national team basketball games and their year-round visibility strengthen the position of Telekom as the home of basketball for the German supporters."

Patrick Baumann, Fiba secretary general, added: "We are delighted to team up with Deutsche Telekom, the home platform of basketball in Germany, and look forward to providing German basketball fans with a complete experience as their favourite players set out to perform on basketball's biggest stages over the next five years."
