Clothes retailer KiK has agreed a partnership with the German soccer side 1. FC Köln for the 2017/18 season.
The agreement will see the company gain a strong brand presence at the club’s home stadium throughout the Bundesliga season on two 3D Cam Carpets, the technology that paints an image onto the grass to appear three-dimensional on screen, either side of the pitch. Cologne have over ten Cam Carpets at their RheinEnergieStadion ground.
The deal is believed to be worth a low six-digit figure to Köln, though further details have not been disclosed.
The textiles company’s new agreement marks its return to the Bundesliga, after it was a sponsor of several German soccer sides between 2003 and 2009, including Arminia Bielelfeld, FC Hansa Rostock, SV Werder Bremen and VfL Bochum.
FC Köln finished fifth in the Bundesliga in the 2016/17 season, qualifying for European competition, but have made a disappointing start to their 2017/18 campaign, losing their first five fixtures leave them bottom of the table. They gained a 0-0 draw against Hannover 96 on Monday and will look to halt their descent when they play FK Crvena Zvezda at home on Thursday in a Europa League clash.
