Top-tier German soccer side FC Köln have announced a new four-year partnership with DEVK.
The deal will see the insurance group serve as the Bundesliga outfit’s first-ever sleeve sponsor until the end of the 2020/21 season. The company will also benefit from advertising space on pitchside LED bands at the club’s Rhein Energie Stadion home ground.
According to German sports industry outlet Sponsors.de, the agreement will earn the two-time domestic champions an annual €2 million (US$2.3 million).
FC Köln are one of 14 Bundesliga sides to recruit a sleeve sponsor ahead of the 2017/18 season, as the inventory becomes available to Germany’s top-flight teams for the first time.
Alexander Wehrle, FC Köln’s managing director, said: “We have chosen the best possible offer for this new main partnership and are very pleased to have found a strong brand for the sleeve. The fact that we are now cooperating with a real Cologne-based company is all the more beautiful. It is in keeping with our philosophy that we are entering into a long-term, multi-faceted partnership that will benefit both sides."
Hans-Joachim Nagel, DEVK’s head of communications, added: “FC Köln means pure emotion in football. The club's power is exceptional. We associate the same heart, blood and the same roots. Together two strong brands like us can only win.”
FC Köln finished fifth in the Bundesliga in 2016/17, securing qualification to the group stages of the Uefa Europa League, European soccer’s second-tier club competition, for the first time in 25 years. They begin the new campaign away to Borussia Mönchengladbach on 20th of August.
