Eurosport secures IAAF World Championships rights
Eurosport has announced it has acquired the pan-European rights to broadcast IAAF World Athletics Series events from 2011 to 2013, beginning with next month's World Championships in Daegu.
The agreement, brokered by IEC in Sports, the IAAF’s media rights agency for Africa and Europe, will see the broadcaster screen at least 100 hours of live coverage from the 2011 IAAF World Championships from 27th August to 4th September, as well as the following edition in Moscow, 2013.
The deal also includes coverage of the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Istanbul next March, the World Marathon and Half-Marathon Championships, the Youth and Junior World Championships and Cross Country World Championships.
As well as broadcasting the Athletics World Series events on Eurosport and Eurosport 2, the agreement allows for live streaming online, via the Eurosport Player, and on mobile.

Laurent-Eric Le Lay, chairman and chief executive of Eurosport Group, said: "Eurosport has broadcast the Athletics World Championships and World Athletic Series for over 20 years. We continue our long-standing commitment to provide athletics fans across Europe and around the world with the most comprehensive and qualitative coverage available."
IAAF president Lamine Diack said: “This deal is excellent news for the IAAF as there are now broadcasting agreements in place covering more than 100 territories throughout 40 different deals in Europe and Africa. I am also delighted that our agency IEC in Sports has ensured a strong combination of terrestrial free to air and satellite in most territories, with all but two of those deals in Europe being with free to air broadcasters.”
