Top-flight Spanish soccer side Espanyol have announced Riviera Maya as their new main sponsor for the next six years.
The Mexican tourist destination will serve as the La Liga outfit’s front-of-shirt sponsor, in a deal which will see the resort’s logo adorn the front of all first team playing tops from January 2018 until 2023. The company will also benefit from extensive brand exposure throughout the club’s RCDE Stadium and training ground, as well as across their digital channels.
According to soccer business outlet Inside World Football, the agreement is worth a total €12 million (US$14.3 million), which could rise to more than €16 million if the team qualifies for European competition. Riviera Maya has been a partner of the Barcelona-based club since 2011, and the new deal has been negotiated with the Government of Quintana Roo, where the resort is based.
Ramon Robert, chief executive of Espanyol, said: “The agreement includes having the Riviera Maya brand on the front of the shirt, the possibility of developing soccer academies and other aspects. This agreement gives security, a guarantee and demonstrates the loyalty that exists between the two parties.”
Darío Flota, tourism promotion director for Riviera Maya, added: “Being tied to a football team will allow our brand to reach many countries. It would be nice to have a photo of the whole team with our background beaches.”
Espanyol are 13th in La Liga after picking up just one point from their opening two games. They play local rivals Barcelona in their next fixture on 9th September.
