International broadcaster Eleven Sports has acquired rights in Italy to show live coverage of Serie A, the top flight of soccer in the country.
The agreement, which will be activated on 1st October, entitles the network to three live matches every week, which will be shown on mobile, tablet and online as part of a pay offer for fans. The action will be complemented by pre and post-match analysis from former players, pundits and journalists.
The first three matches to be carried by Eleven Sports will include Cagliari’s visit to league leaders Napoli, Benevento’s home game against Inter Milan and Roma’s trip to the San Siro to face AC Milan. Viewers will be able to purchase games on a weekly basis, with individual fixtures available for €1.99, or all three matches priced at €3.99.
Danny Menken, group managing director of Eleven Sports, said: “Our model of acquiring smaller rights with economically viable production costs and widespread appeal amongst domestic fans in Italy has proved very successful and we are thrilled to take our coverage of football to the next level by delivering top Serie A action for the fans.
“We are looking forward to working in partnership with Serie A to help them reach and grow their fanbase across Italy by providing access to the biggest and best teams and players at an affordable price.”
