The European Handball Federation (EHF) has extended its broadcast agreement with Sky Deutschland.

The subscription TV service will continue to show club handball’s premier competition in Germany and Austria through to the end of the 2019/20 season.

The deal, a renewal of a partnership first signed ahead of the 2014/15 season, was brokered by global agency MP& Silva.

The extension follows the recent announcement that Sky Deutschland will broadcast Germany’s DKB Handball Bundesliga live from the start of the 2017/18 season.

Roman Steuer, executive vice president of sports for Sky Deutschland, said: “The extension of the rights agreement for the Velux EHF Champions League is a further high-value addition to the sports portfolio for our subscribers. This together with the acquisition of the broadcast rights for the DKB Handball Bundesliga, underlines Sky’s position as the home for all handball fans in Germany and Austria.”

David Szlezak, managing director of EHF Marketing GmbH, also expressed his satisfaction, reflecting upon the commitment Sky has shown to club handball in Germany and Austria.

The EHF Champions League brings together the top club handball sides from across Europe. Last season, it was won by Polish side KS Vive Tauron Kiecle.
