The English Football League (EFL), the organising body for the second, third and fourth tiers of club soccer in England, has confirmed that free-to-air channel Quest will become the new home of its UK highlights for the next four seasons as well as a producer of its new weekly Facebook show.
Kicking-off from the 2018/19 season the deal sees the Discovery-owned, Eurosport-powered channel provide 90 minutes of extensive match highlights from the Sky Bet Championship, Sky Bet League One, Sky Bet League Two in primetime at 9pm every Saturday night. Quest will also produce highlight shows for midweek league, Carabao Cup and the Checkatrade Trophy games.
In addition to the linear coverage and in a first for the EFL, Quest will produce a new weekly interactive Facebook series, The Reaction, focusing on fan engagement.
EFL chief executive Shaun Harvey said: “As an experienced broadcaster, clubs and their fans will be able to access high quality coverage on a channel that is committed to making the EFL highlights programme one of its flagship shows.
“Quest is the largest channel in the Discovery portfolio with over 12 million people tuning in each month and alongside the rights based programming, they will utilise their existing and emerging digital platforms to enhance the experience for fans to help tell the EFL story as the new season starts to unfold.”
Simon Downing, head of Quest and Eurosport UK, added: “It’s our shared ambition to make coverage of these competitions accessible to as many people as possible, across all consumer platforms.”
The EFL highlights will headline Quest’s line-up of sports events throughout the year which are delivered by leveraging Eurosport’s sport production expertise. This list already includes snooker’s Home Nations series, cycling’s Giro d’Italia, British and World Superbike Championships and soccer’s pre-season tournament, the Emirates Cup.
