Car manufacturer Kia is offering fans in Austria the chance to watch live coverage of Dominic Thiem’s matches from the St Petersburg Open for free on its website.
The deal, sealed by the Lagardère Sports agency, will see Kia – one of Thiem’s sponsors – have exclusive coverage of all his matches from the ATP 250 tournament in St Petersburg, which starts on 17th September.
Thiem, who took Rafael Nadal to five sets at the US Open last week, is one of the rising stars in men’s tennis and Kia Austria is looking to take advantage of his increasing popularity.
The 25-year-old has had an impressive 2018, reaching his first Grand Slam final at Roland Garros in June – becoming the first Austrian finalist since 1995 in the process.
Thiem said: “I’m happy that my partner Kia has made it possible for my fans to watch my St Petersburg matches live and for free with this ground-breaking project.”
Kia marketing director Rene Petzner added: “By offering free, exclusive streaming of Dominic’s matches in St Petersburg for the first time ever at kia.com, we have given his fans the chance to be part of the action – hopefully all the way to the final.”
Thiem, who was world number four back in November, recently ranked 17th in SportsPro’s list of the world’s 50 most marketable athletes.
