Discovery picks up exclusive FA Cup rights in Sweden

Media and entertainment giant Discovery Communications’ Swedish division has acquired exclusive broadcast rights to English soccer’s annual knockout club soccer competition the FA Cup.

Under the terms of the deal, Discovery Networks Sweden will show the tournament in the European country, and will begin coverage from the third round of the 2017/18 tournament, when teams from the top two divisions enter the competition.

Discovery agreed its sublicensing deal for the rights with Swedish pay-TV broadcaster Modern Times Group (MTG), which also holds long-term Nordic media rights deals for the EFL Cup knockout competition and the Championship, the second tier of soccer in England.

The length and financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

Discovery’s coverage will kick off with the Premier League clash between Merseyside rivals Liverpool and Everton on 5th January.
