Derek Jeter, the New York Yankees baseball player, has signed a deal to become an ambassador for Beyond Sport, a global initiative that promotes, develops and funds the use of sport to create positive social change across the world.
Jeter has won five Major League Baseball World Series championships thus far in his career. As an ambassador, Jeter will spread the word and mission of Beyond Sport and helping to build awareness of the impact sport can have on communities worldwide.
“The more we can highlight the important role that sport can play in creating positive social change and show the meaningful benefits it can bring, the more impact we can have on the lives of disadvantaged people all around the world," Jeter said. “Beyond Sport’s outreach is something that I firmly believe in, and I am proud to be able to play my part in helping to achieve those goals.”
Jeter joins 23 other ambassadors who have teamed up with Beyond Sport, which provides funding and business support worth US$1 million annually to projects across the world that use sport to address issues within their communities.
