DAZN acquires Commonwealth Games rights in Canada

DAZN, the OTT service operated by digital sports media company Perform, has acquired live broadcast rights in Canada to the 2018 edition of the Commonwealth Games.

The network will have exclusive rights in Canada to the multi-sport event, which features athletes from members of the Commonwealth of Nations and is due to take place from 4th to 15th April on Australia’s Gold Coast.

DAZN will show hundreds of hours of live coverage of the Games from across 26 sports.

The financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

The deal marks the first time that the rights to the Commonwealth Games have been acquired exclusively by a live-streaming platform.

To mark the partnership, Commonwealth Games Canada and DAZN Canada announced two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist diver Meaghan Benfeito as Team Canada’s flag-bearer for the Games.
