Pan-Asian life insurer AIA Group has named retired soccer player David Beckham as its new global ambassador.
The former Real Madrid midfielder will lend his image to a series of advertising campaigns for the conglomerate’s new wellness platform AIA Vitality. The Englishman will also be present at a number of AIA’s community and business activities for its customers, agents, partners and employees.
The financial terms of the multi-year deal have not been released.
“Joining the AIA family was an easy decision for me,” said Beckham. “I am a passionate believer in the value of wellness and maintaining a healthy lifestyle and I share AIA’s commitment to encourage people to take charge of their health.”
Ng Keng Hooi, AIA’s group chief executive, added: “David is a natural fit with AIA as we pursue our purpose to play a leadership role in the social and economic development of the communities we serve and in doing so, helping millions of people across the Asia-Pacific region to live longer, healthier, better lives.”
Beckham, 41, retired from professional soccer in 2013. The former Manchester United star was captain of England’s national team for six years, earning 115 career appearances in total and scoring 17 goals.
